The BBQ restaurant in the Stoneybrook section of Newport News has new owners.
Virginia Barbeque is part of a chain of 15 restaurants that began in Ashland several years ago. Other locations include Fredericksburg, Tappahannock and Carrollton.
“We’ve done well with our combos as well as the pork ribs and the all-beef hot dogs,” says general manager Damon Vass about the Newport News location that opened up about two weeks ago. “We offer both the Carolina style, which is more vinegar-based, and the Virginia style, which has more of a tomato base.”
In addition to hand-pulled pork and beef brisket, Virginia Barbeque offers chicken and smoked ribs. Side dishes such as roasted red potato salad, cole slaw, collards and corn bread muffins have been popular items. Virginia Barbeque does catering as well.

*We’re happy to welcome Virginia Barbeque to the neighborhood! They’re good people, serving great BBQ, and the roof looks clean enough to eat off of!
That’s not a suggestion, just an observation. *
